Today's goal: Students take notes on the elements of a new-patient workup and complete the PLTW online task.
What a finished product looks like
This is a model of the work you should turn in today. Use it to check your own: match the structure and the level of detail, do not copy it. Your data and wording should be your own.
Notebook notes: the four workup components and what each answers.
- Patient history: answers 'what symptoms, risks, and family history are present?' (no numeric range; uses reported information).
- Vital signs: answers 'is basic physiology in range right now?' Example range: blood pressure below 120/80 mmHg.
- Bloodwork: answers 'how are the organs and metabolism doing?' Example range: fasting glucose 70 to 99 mg/dL.
- Genetic screening: answers 'is there an inherited risk?' Example reference: carrier status for a recessive allele.
Evidence synthesis means combining all four into one ranked differential diagnosis, since no single source gives the full picture.
