Today's goal: Trace one integrated case from molecule to patient using interventions from across the course.
What a finished product looks like
This is a model of the work you should turn in today. Use it to check your own: match the structure and the level of detail, do not copy it. Your data and wording should be your own.
Patient core problem: kidneys are failing, so waste is building up in the blood.
Map from molecule to patient:
- Diagnosis: renal lab values (high blood waste) plus HLA typing flag the failure and set up matching.
- Intervention 1, dialysis: filters waste from the blood to keep the patient stable while they wait.
- Intervention 2, HLA crossmatching: scores donor-recipient compatibility so a poorly matched organ is not transplanted.
- Intervention 3, immunosuppression: lowers the immune attack after transplant so a matched kidney is not rejected.
Outcome: the patient moves from unstable failure to a matched, medication-supported transplant.
How each moves the patient forward: dialysis buys time, crossmatching lowers rejection risk, immunosuppression protects the graft.
